Trashion

When I set out to see what inspired me for the Circus Fashion Show, I scanned various sources. Two people that inspire me are my two good friends from home who now to go Parsons New School. In the Spring of 2007, for my high school's fashion show, they designed a line together based on recycled materials. These dresses (one made from Poland Spring labels and caps, and the other from scalloped trash bags, among others made from duct tape and an array of toys) are not only inspiring, but make trash fashionable! They may not be wearable, but they sure give you something to think about. So thanks Mary and Alyssa!

No.21

Alessandro Dell'Acqua for No. 21 Milan Fall 2010 RTW

Dell'Acqua returned to the runway this season with a new brand, named after his lucky number.  The sartorial collection is feminine, deceptively demure, simultaneously timeless and fashion forward.

Saturday Find

After a fulfilling breakfast at Cherry Alley this morning, Nina, Steph and I swung by Wilson Ross, my favorite vintage store! I found an awesome set of ST. JOHN nautical sweater and skirt ($20!) as well as a Luna Luz white cotton skirt ($12.) The skirt reaches my ankles so I decided to wear it as a sun dress with my own navy and white ribbon and my mother's vintage blazer and my BCBG jelly shoes.

Can't wait until it is warm enough to wear this....that means for us seniors, our time at Bucknell is almost up...but try not to think about that!

Prabal Gurung

Check out Prabal Gurung!
A new, young designer from Nepal who just revealed his collection for the first time at NY Fashion Week. Think fabulous ruffles for spring, great structure to each piece, and focused use of contrasting blacks and whites.

After attending Parsons and working for Bill Blass, Prabal Gurung started his own line. He discussed his fall 2010 collection, shown at New York Fashion Week, with The Times's Eric Wilson.

Quote of the Week

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

maybe not the circus, but...

I draw much inspiration from '20s culture. So who better to honor than one of the most influential men of the decade. Sir Charlie Chaplin won his first Academy Award for The Circus. Maybe he isn't technically a clown, but I consider him to be quite the jester!

What Dreams May Come

While in Italy last semester I got to take a trip to the island of Capri where I discovered shoe paradise. There was a little store, which also sold limoncello and chocolate, that creates custom made sandals. Colors and styles exploded before my eyes. Swarovski crystals glittered as the afternoon sun came in from the windows. I must admit I indulged my inner shoe fashionista and got myself a gorgeous pair of sandals that I will treasure forever. Moral of the story when you find that little store with the perfect something, get it. It might not always be in style, but the memory will be forever.

The Greatest Show on Earth

I must admit that it is not easy designing around the circus theme...so I've decided to write down relevant but rather abstract words that will challenge me to reconfigure conventional images in my head 【suspension......exotica.....curious........freak】
